Preparing your holiday home for Christmas

From warm welcome notes to adding a touch of nature, here are some creative ways to greet your guests to your holiday let over the festive or winter period. And when guests have a memorable stay, they’re more likely to leave glowing reviews, tell their friends and family about your space, and even come back for another visit.

  • Capture the festive spirit with a decorated Christmas tree, seasonal wreath on the door to welcome guests or garlands of baubles adorning the fire place.
  • Prior to Christmas bookings, include a few marketing photos featuring your holiday home ready for the festive season - preferably on the home or leading page. It will help your guests imagine themselves celebrating there with their families.
  • Be sure to advertise hot tubs or wood burners and include photos of the room with the fire in action or the bubbling hot tub.
  • Check that your boiler and hot tub are serviced well in time for the Christmas period.
  • Set the heating so it is warm for your guests’ arrival and top up the baskets of logs if you have an open fire or wood burner. We will ensure that the instructions for the heating and hot water can be found in your welcome pack.
  • Bedrooms can get a bit nippy in winter, so we will check the radiator settings and ensure that duvets are an appropriate tog. You may wish to provide extra blankets, even a hot water bottle, for guests to help them feel comfortable.
  • Write a friendly personalised Christmas card or note to help them feel at home.  It’s a small touch but they will love it.  Maybe include your favourite place for a brisk walk or the opening hours for the local pub.
  • Create a Festive snack basket  with mince pies, seasonally flavoured crisps, cookies, popcorn, candy canes and sweet treats for the children.  Maybe include a small colouring book, crayons or a ginger bread kit for the children, and dog treats to share with their furry friends.
  • Add a touch of nature – Subtle, natural winter decorations such as pine cones in a glass bowl, or sprigs of holly or fallen pine branches decorating the mantelpiece can also add a touch of seasonal cheer.
  • Leave out some wrapping paper, sticky tape, scissors and gift tags for last minute wrapping and card writing
