Jemima's Story - Combining work and studies
Working for Pebbles three years in a row as a seasonal member of the housekeeping team, Jemima found that being a Cleaner at Pebbles gave her the flexibility to work and earn well around her studies.
A local student
Jemima came from Kingsbridge and went to school locally. She went on to attend college in Totnes doing an art foundation course before moving on to Falmouth to study illustration.
An alternative to waitressing
Joining Pebbles in the summer of 2014, just before she joined sixth form, Jemima didn’t want to waitress over the summer. She hadn’t realised there was an alternative option for a summer job at her age until a friend saw a job advertised on Facebook. Jemima applied and everything went from there.
Training, variety and flexibility
Jemima was trained by our really friendly team. She always enjoyed work because she worked with different people and went to different places so no two days were the same.
Jemima explained “It’s lovely getting to see all these beautiful houses as well. On a more practical note, it’s really flexible work. When I am at college I only work on Saturdays, but in the summer I fit it in around other jobs, so I can do as much as I want.”
Working at times that suit you
“I really like that you can say when you’re free to work rather than just being told when it suits Pebbles.” One summer, Jemima had two other jobs at the same time, so it made it much easier for her to manage her own schedule.
A happy diverse work environment
“Pebbles is a good place to learn because there’s always the chance to talk to different people from different backgrounds, all the time, and I have never met anyone I didn’t get along with there. Everyone’s happy and nice to be around so I would absolutely recommend it to other people as a place to work.”
